Investment Banking Opportunities

Are you a college student considering a financial career? If so, you may want to look into investment banking opportunities. The world of investment banking is lucrative and rewarding. It is also competitive and may require long hours. However many bankers find that the many years of education and work it took was worth getting to the top of their field. The first thing you will need to even think about working in this field is a Bachelor's degree in business, economics or a related field.

During your college education you will want to apply for a specialized investment banking training program. Many schools have prestigious programs that prepare students for their careers after college. Some investment banks also have programs that last anywhere from six months to two years depending on how extensive they are. These programs prepare students for an internship and an eventual career as an analyst. You will take a specified package of courses and get to visit investment banks and learn hands on skills. The internship is the first step because it gives you on the job training. In addition, many banks hire from their pool of interns.

After your internship comes two to three years as an investment banking analyst. After that, you can go back and get your MBA which will help you land a more prestigious position as an associate. There is plenty of room for advancement in the world of investment banking, although there will be lots of competition for one position. The key is to have the right education, the right training and the right attitude. Recruiters look for this combination when seeking interns, analysts and other employees. They may also look for recruits they feel will fit into the company well because working as part of a team is often required.

Interviewing with a recruiter is very similar to a job interview. However it can be more difficult because sometimes it takes a whole round of interviews before you can get a job. The reason for this is because investment banking is a competitive field and the recruiter has to narrow things down somehow. You will find that the investment banking opportunities range in salary from $25,000 to more than $100,000 based on where they are and what is involved.
